A loss may turn out to be a gain

-----An ancient Chinese fable, a classical Chinese text originating from *Huainanzi · Renjian Xun* (Huainanzi - Lessons of the Human World), compiled by Liu An of the Western Han Dynasty as part of ancient Chinese historical culture.

Near China’s northern borders lived an old man named Sai Weng.
One day, his horse ran away to the land of the barbarians.
His neighbors felt sorry for him.
But the old man said:“Who knows if this isn’t a good thing?”
A few months later, the horse came back, leading a fine barbarian horse.
The neighbors congratulated him.
He said:“Who knows if this isn’t a bad thing?”
Later, his son rode the new horse, fell off, and broke his leg.People felt bad again.
He said:“Who knows if this isn’t a good thing?”
Soon, war broke out. All young men were drafted and most died. But his son was spared because of his broken leg.
